Stop Solving SAT & ACT Math the Hard Way
Your Child Has Desmos on Test Day. Make Sure They Know How to Use It.
Desmos is a powerful graphing calculator available on the Digital SAT and online ACT. It can help students solve equations, graph functions, find intersections, check answers, and tackle many test-day problems faster.
The Desmos Math Strategy Guide teaches students when and how to use Desmos strategically to save time, reduce mistakes, and solve with confidence.

Your Child May Know the Math—and Still Be Losing Valuable Time
Have you ever heard your child say:
"I knew how to do it, but I ran out of time."
"I made a careless mistake."
"I didn't know where to start."
Those aren't always math problems.
They're often strategy problems.
Students can understand the mathematics and still lose valuable time by:
Solving problems the long way
Entering equations incorrectly
Making avoidable calculation errors
Missing important information on a graph
Failing to recognize when Desmos can simplify a problem
That's why I created this guide.

Hi, I'm Paul Wright
I'm a 25-year mathematics educator, founder of Ascend Test Prep, and creator of Math Gangsta.
But the idea behind this guide became personal when I watched my own son prepare for the SAT.
He understood much of the mathematics, but his SAT® Math score was around: 640
When I sat beside him and watched him complete a practice test, I saw what was happening.
He wasn't simply struggling with math.
He was:
Solving questions inefficiently
Making avoidable errors
Spending too much time on certain problems
Missing opportunities to use Desmos
So I taught him to approach the test differently.
He learned to recognize recurring question structures and use Desmos strategically.
640 → 730 SAT® Math
+3 Points on ACT® Math
That experience helped inspire this guide.
I wanted other students to have the strategies, explanations, videos, and guided practice that I wish my own son had from the beginning.
These are the same types of strategies I teach my own students.
This is one student's experience. Individual results vary. No particular score improvement is guaranteed.
Questions Parents Ask
-
Both. The guide teaches Desmos strategies for students preparing for the Digital SAT® and ACT®.
-
Basic commands can be learned quickly.
The harder skill is recognizing when, why, and how to apply those commands to different problems under test-day pressure.
That's why this guide contains more than 150 opportunities to practice.
-
No.
Desmos is a tool. Students still need mathematical understanding. This guide teaches them how to combine that knowledge with technology to solve problems more efficiently.
-
No. This is a digital PDF with immediate access. No physical book will be shipped.
-
Yes. Supporting videos reinforce important strategies throughout the guide.
